What Sequent does

Paste a list of tasks with dates, or upload a CSV file, and Sequent inserts a timeline (a Gantt-style chart) into your design. The timeline is one group of ordinary Adobe Express shapes and text, so you can move, resize and restyle it like anything else. Select it later to change the tasks and update it in place. Sequent is free.

Quick start

  1. Open Sequent in Adobe Express.
  2. Type or paste your tasks into the Tasks box, one per line: name, start, end. Or click "Upload CSV", or "Load example" to try it out.
  3. Check the preview under the box. Problems are listed with their line number (up to 20 errors and 10 warnings).
  4. Choose your options and click "Insert timeline". The timeline is added to the middle of the current page, or starts near the top if it is taller than the page. Drag and drop isn't supported.

The options are: "Date range" (Fit to tasks, or Custom with From and To), "Colours" (One colour per task, or One colour per group, which adds a legend when your tasks have groups), "Design background" (Match the page, Light (dark text) or Dark (light text)), and the switches "Milestones as diamonds" and "Today marker".

Questions

What can I paste or upload?

One task per line: name, start date, end date, then optionally a group and a colour such as #e0384b. You can paste rows straight from a spreadsheet, or use commas or semicolons. A header row such as Task, Start, End is skipped. Task names may contain commas. A task with no end date, or with the same start and end date, is a milestone. "Upload CSV" reads one .csv, .tsv or .txt file of up to 1 MB. Excel and Numbers files can't be read directly: copy the rows and paste them instead, or save them as CSV.

Which date formats work?

2026-10-04 always works. Dates written with numbers and the year last, such as 04/10/2026 or 4.10.2026, are read in the order you choose under "Date order": Day / Month / Year or Month / Day / Year. Sequent never guesses, and when a date only makes sense in the other order, the preview says so. Month names work in English, Dutch, German, French and Spanish when the date is just a day, a month and a year, for example 4 Oct 2026, Oct 4, 2026 or 4 okt 2026. End dates count as a whole day: a task from 5 to 9 October covers five days.

Why is "Insert timeline" greyed out?

The Tasks box has no valid tasks yet, or the preview lists errors ("Line 3: …"). Fix those lines and the button turns on. Warnings, such as a duplicate line, don't block it. A timeline can have up to 200 tasks.

How do I change a timeline after inserting it?

Right after you insert a timeline, the panel is already editing it: change the tasks or options and click "Update timeline". To change a timeline later, select it on the page and click "Edit this timeline" (if the panel is still editing another timeline, click "Start a new timeline" first). Its tasks and options are loaded back into the panel. Change them and click "Update timeline".

The timeline is redrawn in the same place, at the width and angle you gave it; its height changes if you add or remove tasks. Update redraws everything from the task list, so changes you made by hand inside the timeline, such as a recoloured bar or a retyped label, are replaced. "Insert as new" keeps the old timeline and adds a new one.

What does "too big to save inside the design" mean?

Adobe Express lets an add-on save about 3 KB on each element. That is enough for roughly 60 to 90 tasks with names of 25 to 40 characters. Shorter names fit more; longer names, accented or non-Latin letters, or a colour on each task fit fewer. A bigger plan is saved in Sequent's add-on storage in Adobe Express instead, and the panel tells you so.

That storage is per user, so a collaborator won't have that timeline's tasks, and they may also be missing elsewhere. When you click "Edit this timeline" and they are missing, Sequent says so: paste the tasks again and click "Update timeline".

Does Sequent send my tasks anywhere?

No. Sequent makes no network requests of its own and has no analytics or tracking. Your tasks are saved in your design and in Adobe Express's add-on storage, and never sent to us. Read the privacy policy for the details.
